Surveys on the withdrawal effects of Vicodin often classify the name brand drug along with other major forms of prescribed hydrocodone, which include Lortab, Vocodone, Zydone, Megamor, and Vanacet. The number of hydrocodone pills and prescriptions created each year has risen from just around 10 million by the end of the 90s to over 100 million and climbing today. The fact is that Vicodin and its cousin hydrocodone have changed the American pharmaceutical landscape for both physicians, drug users and the drug treatment centers that often get involved as well.

  • Common withdrawal effects, according to these surveys, range widely. Addicts can feel clammy, nauseous, itchy, anxious, and insomniac. Vicodin detox can lead to a rapid heartbeat, feelings of paranoia, dry mouth, heart troubles, and psychosomatic disorders. In rare cases, the sudden removal of Vicodin can lead to extreme dysphoria and suicidal urges.

The important thing to remember about vicodin withdrawal is that the symptoms depend not just on the drug but also on the patient and both near term and historical details of that patient's behavior and chemistry. Reason ingestion of alcohol or meth in conjunction with Vicodin abuse can create a cocktail of severe withdrawal affects and/or drug side effects.

On the other hand, a patient who barely abuses Vicodin, if at all, can feel surging withdrawal affects if her medical history or genetics predisposes her to certain kinds of somatic instabilities. Although Vicodin has been around for more than 30 years, there are many long-terms facts about the drug that remain unknown and/or disputed.
